Coweta mother and son team up with murder mystery comedy By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
Tammy Waldrop and her son, Joey, are fans of the television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." When Clayton College and State University had a contest for new murder mysteries, the Waldrops spoofed "Buffy" and came up with "Buff the Vampire Slayer." Their play won the contest, the drama department at CCSU put it on and it was a successful show. Now, "Buff" has returned with a new cast and a few changes to the script. It will be performed this Saturday as a fundraiser for the American Business Women's Association scholarship fund. The show features lots of laughs as well as audience participation. "Audience members get parts to read during the show," explained Tammy Waldrop. "They usually have a pop culture/satirical slant." Waldrop is the director while her son is the assistant director for the show. The cast features lots of local talent, including Newnan High School sophomore Josh Carnes as Buff; Peachtree City's Melissa Hamilton as Jillian, Buff's watcher; and Shelley Shepard, assistant manager at Chabbquosett Farms, as Buff's criminal justice student assistant. Also in the cast are McIntosh sophomore Katie Albright as an art student; Hans Albright as Professor Shampikian; Diana Sullivan, a teacher at Newnan High School, as a dental hygiene student; Elisabeth Burns as a computer repair person; Joey Waldrop as the grief stricken boyfriend of the victim; and Dawn Waldrop as the dead body. Terry Owens, the stage manager, is the wife of Hans Albright and the mother of Katie Albright. The Waldrops have yet to write the followup to "Buff" but Tammy would love to write another one at some point in the future. "Buff the Vampire Slayer" will be presented at the Central Education Center in Newnan. Dinner will be provided by Contemporary Catering and tickets are available at Hit the Trail, Brothers Ltd., and Bank of Coweta for $40 per person or $75 a couple. The show starts at 7 p.m. |
