Peachtree City's mayor is honored in Georgia Trend as a 'rising star' Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown was chosen by the editors of Georgia Trend Magazine as one of the "40 under 40, Georgia's Rising Stars" selections. The magazine annually selects 40 individuals from Georgia under the age of 40 who are deemed to be the rising stars in business, education, politics,science and the arts. Only six elected officials were chosen for 2002 group. In only his first year as an elected official, Brown was also selected asone of the 45 participants for the Metro Atlanta Regional Leadership Institute held in September, selected for the Policy Cabinet with the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority and has co-chaired a legislative action subcommittee for the Georgia Municipal Association's Community Development Committee. Brown noted, "There is a lot of work ahead of us and I am eager to be part of the team that is working on Metro Atlanta's critical issues." Brown also pointed out, "The news media is having a difficult time trying to categorize me but the regional leadership is really beginning to warm up to my viewpoints on land use and transportation." Other notable "40 under 40" selections include Synovus Financial Corp. CEO Billy Blanchard, Michelle Nunn, who is the daughter of former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn, and Executive Director of Hands On Atlanta, and Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick. The annual roster of rising leaders under age 40 is featured in the October edition of Georgia Trend. Brown and the others selected were honored at an awards ceremony at the Fox Theatre last night.
