Starr's Mill faces Lovejoy in sixth week of football season

There are several home games in the area tonight, including a homecoming game and first true home game of the season for McIntosh, but none as big as the match between Starr's Mill and Lovejoy.

The Panthers are 4-1 while Lovejoy is 3-1 and both teams look strong this year. Starr's Mill has seen good performances from the running game and played solid defense against some good opponents. They will have a task tonight facing off against a talented Lovejoy offense that can quickly put up a lot of points on its opponents.

The winner of this game could be in the driver's seat on the way to winning the region, but both teams still have matches against Newnan and East Coweta.

McIntosh (1-4) finally gets to play at home tonight as renovations to the bleachers have been completed. It is their homecoming game and the Chiefs will need to use that school spirit to buckle down and avoid the mistakes that have plagued them late in the game in the last few weeks. Their opponent tonight is Carver-Columbus (2-2), which lost to Starr's Mill last week 28-12.

Northgate (0-3) is hoping to get its first win tonight when they host Pebblebrook (1-1). The Vikings were shut out by Woodward Academy last week, while the Falcons' win came against North Clayton.

East Coweta (2-3), winners of two in a row, look to get back to .500 tonight with a tough match at Tara Stadium in Jonesboro against Riverdale (2-1). The Indians had a sizable lead against Fayette County last week only to see the Tigers come charging back and close the gap to 34-28. East Coweta needs to play stauncher defense to be able to stop the Raiders from running all over them.

Landmark Christian (4-0) comes back from a bye week to face Carver, Atlanta (0-3) at Grady Stadium in Atlanta. The War Eagles should do fine as long as they don't look past Carver. Landmark's offense has been able to score a lot of points and their defense has scored their share as well.

Fayette County (1-4) has a home game against Creekside (3-1) tonight. The Tigers need to avoid getting behind early because they have proven that they are a strong second half team. Creekside has won two games in a row and will be another tough opponent for the Tigers to face.

Sandy Creek (2-1) easily defeated Chapel Hill last Friday night. They looked good on offense with big runs from Phillip hyde and big catches from Calvin Johnson. The Patriots will try to continue their success tonight when they travel to take on Lithia Springs (1-2). Lithia Springs got their first win of the season last week by beating Alexander, 37-18.

Our Lady of Mercy (1-3) got their first win in their first, full varsity season last week. This week the Bobcats take on their rival, Blessed Trinity (2-2). Our Lady of Mercy will be without several regular starters again this week but should feel confident in their ability to match up against the Titans.
