Lady Tigers finish second at Lassiter tournament

The Fayette County Lady Tigers varsity softball team played in the Lassiter softball tournament over the weekend and placed second.

The Lady Tigers started off the tournament with a 1-0 win over Woodland. Fayette County outhit Woodland 6-3. Pitcher Bonnie Bynum scored the winning run and struck out 14 batters. Fayette County's next game pitted them against Kennesaw Mountain. The Lady Tigers lost 1-0 and were outhit 3-2. Katie Gaspierik and Ashley Holcombe got the hits for the Lady Tigers, while Bynum struck out 11 batters.

The next game for the Lady Tigers was against the host team, Lassiter, and ended in a tie. Once again Fayette was outhit 3-2. In the final game of the tournament Fayette County defeated Evans, 1-0. The Lady Tigers were outhit 4-3 but Pamela O'Neal scored the winning run. Other Lady Tigers who got hits were Alison Horne and Holcombe. Stephanie Phillips was the winning pitcher, striking out three Evans batters.

Fayette County will have two big region games next Tuesday and Wednesday. They will host Starr's Mill on Tuesday at 5 p.m. and will play at McIntosh next Wednesday at 6 p.m.
