Fayette woman completes GED program

A Peachtree City woman recently became the first adult education student in Fayette County to complete two programs offered locally by Griffin Technical College.

Miho Fujita has received her General Educational Development) diploma, which followed her participation in the English as a Second Language course.

Fujita, a native Japanese speaker, enrolled in GED classes last year, but she worked diligently to pass the test in English. All of the GED courses were taught in English.

Fujita moved to Peachtree City two years ago with her husband who works at Shinsei Corporation in Peachtree City. Her ESL and GED instructors were Peter Volin and Susan Harrell.

English as a Second Language classes are offered free of charge in Peachtree City through Griffin Technical College. Classes meet every weekday morning, from 9 a.m.noon in the Gazebo near the Peachtree City Recreation Department. Two sessions weekly are offered at First Baptist Church in Peachtree City on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6-9 p.m.

GED classes are offered, also free of charge, on Monday and Wednesday nights at the Gazebo from 6-9 p.m. Classes are also available in Fayetteville Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9 a.m.-noon in the Fayette County Recreation Department building on Redwine Road.
