Here we are halfway through the high school football season and things are starting to take shape. Landmark Christian and Starr's Mill are both playing well and looking to go back to the playoffs, while other local teams are struggling with some top notch opponents.

Starr's Mill (3-1) defeated Riverdale last week by stopping the Raiders on their final drive. The Panthers have struggled with some injuries this year but have proven they can overcome obstacles by sticking to their game plan. Tonight, they travel to Columbus to take on Carver (2-1). Carver lost to Newnan last week, 29-14.

Sandy Creek (1-1) comes off their second bye week to host Chapel Hill (0-3). In their last game, the Patriots defeated Alexander 17-6. Chapel Hill faced Alexander last week and lost 17-14. In their previous two games Chapel Hill was shut out. The Patriots will look to establish their running game early and control the ball and the clock in what will surely be some sloppy conditions.

East Coweta (1-3) got their first win last week against McIntosh (1-3). The Indians only had a seven point lead going into the fourth quarter and gave up close to 300 yards rushing. This week, East Coweta hosts Fayette County (1-3), which lost to Lovejoy, 55-7, while McIntosh plays at Newnan (3-1).

Northgate (0-2) had a bye week last week. This week the Vikings will travel to take on Woodward Academy. The War Eagles are 1-2 and got their first win last week, defeating North Clayton 14-12. Woodward Academy lost to Forest Park the week before, 17-16. This should be a battle between these two teams.

Our Lady of Mercy (0-3) will host Whitefield Academy (1-2) this week. It will be the Bobcats first region game in their first full varsity season. Our Lady of Mercy has shown some promise on both sides of the ball but come up short against some talented competition. Tonight's match should put them up against a team of equal talents. Whitefield Academy lost to Gordon Lee last week 54-0.

Landmark Christian (4-0) has a bye week this week before heading to Grady Stadium in Atlanta to take on Carver, Atlanta. The War Eagles have looked outstanding this season, putting up an average of over 40 points per game and only allowing 40 points total.

Games will start at 7:30 p.m. tonight, but those concerned about games being postponed should call the schools or visit our Web site, www.thecitizennews.com, Friday afternoon for updates.
