"Bark in the Park" returns for sixth year By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
McCurry Park is going to the dogs on Saturday with the sixth annual "Bark in the Park." The event, which is made for dog owners and their canine companions, is a fundraiser for the Fayette County Humane Society. Proceeds benefit the all-volunteer non-profit organization's spay and neuter assistance program. The event runs at the picnic area at the park from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be contests for dogs, including Best Trick, Best Dog Costume, Owner/Pet Look-a-Like, Best Canine Kisser, as well as games for dogs such as Doggie Musical Chairs and Bobbing for Bones. Pet contests are $3 each. The U.S. Customs Canine Enforcement will give demonstrations, as will Diane Gordon of Puppy Tales, who will showcase obedience training. The main event at "Bark in the Park" is a pledge walk. The registration/entrance fee is $25, per family, and includes an event t-shirt. The adult collect in the highest total for the pledge walk wins a two night stay for two at Chateau Elan, while the Under 21 entrant who collects the most money will receive an entertainment package. There will also be a silent auction. One of the items up for auction is round-trip airline tickets. Registration forms for "Bark in the Park" are available at all Fayette County veterinary clinics and registration will also be available at the event. "Bark in the Park" will go on rain or shine. Pets must be kept under control at all times. All animals must be leashed and have up to date vaccinations and owners must have carry proof of rabies vaccination to the event. Water will be provided community bowl style and owners are asked not to bring female animals in season or animals needing a muzzle. Participants are also asked to come prepared to clean up after their animal. |
