Barnes and Noble in Fayetteville to be part of Night of 100 Authors and Atlanta Literary Festival By MICHAEL

The Atlanta Literary Festival is taking place this week and the Barnes and Noble in Fayetteville will host two events on Friday night. There will be an Educator's Open House from 5:30-7:30 p.m. followed by The Night of 100 Authors from 7-9 p.m. The Educator's Open house will be a chance for local teachers to receive free resource materials, gather information on the Barnes and Noble Communtiy Partners program, renew the Educator Discount card and visit with representatives for the Margaret Mitchell House, The High Museum and Peachtree Publishers. There will be several children's authors on hand including Robert Burch, Carmen Agra Deedy, Kymberli Brady, R.B. Moore and Christine Young Robinson. Burch will give a reading at 6:30 p.m. and Agra Deedy will give a reading at 7 p.m. The school with the most educators attending the open house will win a "Storybooks Alive Day!" for their school in the spring of 2003. Starting with Burch and Agra Deedy's readings, visitors will also get a chance to meet local authors and listen to readings, while 20 percent of their purchases will be donated to literacy programs. Authors Dennis Chase (White Gold), Frances Carlyle (Maybe Next Year) and Jerry Moore (Weekend Warriors) will have meet and greet tables set up. Author Jeanne Hewell Chambers (Life's Too Short to ordinary) will be the Mistress of Ceremonies. Other authors giving readings at the event will be Ferrol Sams (Run With the Horsemen) at 7:30 p.m., Travis Hunter (Married But Still Looking) at 8 p.m., Derrick Gilliard (Living in the Shadows of a Legend) at 8:15 p.m. and Estelle Ford Williamson (Abbeville Farwell: A Novel of Early Atlanta and North Georgia) at 8:30 p.m. Other events taking place during the festival include the Georgia Book and Arts Festival, Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., featuring over 200 authors, storytellers, publishers and artists. Another event during the Georgia Book and Arts Festivl is Read for the Record at Centennial Olympic Park as Atlanta tries to set a world record for the most people reading in the same place at the same time. Marie Barnes, First Lady of Georgia, will be a special guest. Participants ages four and up must register by 12;30 p.m. The Fox Theatre will host the Moveable Feast of Authors from 6-10 p.m. on Sunday, featuring authors like Tina McElroy Ansa, William Diehl, Cassandra King and Mary Alice Mnroe among others.
