As this paper went to press yesterday, two rivals and outstanding softball teams met on the diamond. Undefeated Fayette County High School hosted McIntosh in what could be a preview of the region championship.

Last Thursday, McIntosh played their first game on their new field against Newnan and won 18-0. Pitcher Lily Yarbrough pitched six no hit innings, facing the minimum number of batters. She gave up a hit in the seventh but Newnan did not have a lot of luck against her, due mostly to her 60 mph fastball. As for the offense, Renae Clarke drove in two runs, while Kristy Cline and Jordan Wiegele each drove in one run.

Fayette County (19-0) played Lovejoy last Thursday and won 13-0. Pitcher Bonnie Bynum recorded her 17th win of the season, while Stefanie Norman drove in three runs and Alison Horne drove in two runs.

Fayette County and McIntosh are very similar teams. They have experienced players, powerful hitters and dominating pitchers. Visit our website, www.thecitizennews.com or check out Friday's Peachtree Citizen Review for the score of Tuesday's game.
