Most Golfview
residents like new traffic calming measures
I am appalled to read in the local papers that over 700 signatures have been collected to contest the traffic calming measures on Golfview Drive. As a longtime resident of 613 Golfview Dr., I am extremely happy with the results of the measures recently put in place. I can again move around in my own front yard or exit from my driveway in safety. Living on a curve with the sight distance also limited by a hill, I have had more near-crashes coming out of my drive in recent years than I care for. Mowing my front lawn was a gamble, as was taking the grandchildren for a golf cart ride. It should be remembered by all that Golfview was designed as, and remains to be, a residential, neighborhood street. Unfortunately, some years ago it became a thoroughfare for traffic from newly developed neighborhoods to our north when Blue Smoke Trail was connected to Golfview. Since 700 signatures have reportedly been collected, I can deduct most of these come from other than Golfview residents. I was also solicited for my signature against the calming measures. I found, however, the presentation to include several emotional and unsupported statements which I would not put my signature on. The City Council should carefully examine the accuracy of these claims, and also question why it is being asked to favor the opinion of transient travelers over that of Golfview residents. Please let's keep the calm! P.S.: Please reduce the number of signatures presented by one since my wife upon due consideration asks that hers be withdrawn. Gloer B. Helmen Peachtree City
