'Checkpoint Golfview' drivers will remember

I live in the Kedron area of Peachtree City and unfortunately must travel through "Checkpoint Golfview." I call it that because it now represents to me another famous checkpoint of the Cold War era, Checkpoint Charlie. I drove through East Germany and they too had ways of controlling their population.

Mr. Mayor, tear down these bumps!

I for one do not speed anywhere in Peachtree City, or blow my horn. Speeders should be caught and fined; they are a menace to my children also. I have also had a mailbox destroyed by an inattentive driver and had two accidents in front of my house. We need police to monitor for aggressive drivers.

What really upset me the other day was a letter from a Golfview resident lecturing parents about their driving. Who are you to lecture other people? You are entitled to you opinion, even if it comes off as holier than thou! I'll just ask all drivers to respect the law.

This issue comes down to equal protection under the law, probably an alien concept to some elected officials. Is speeding OK in other neighborhoods?

As the presentation at a special session of the City Council showed, these speed bumps and stop signs violate state law and do not correct the real problem, aggressive drivers. This "pilot program" is a major flop and needs to be fixed before someone loses their life because of delayed emergency response or by running a stop sign by mistake.

I may not blow my horn, but I'm sure the 700-plus residents who signed the petition against speed bumps will "sound off" with me come next election day.
