St. Gabriel's plans mission Sept. 30 - Oct. 2 The Catholic Church of St. Gabriel will have a parish mission for three nights beginning Sept. 30 and the Fayette community is invited to attend and get a first hand look at the Catholic faith. The mission will be Monday through Wednesday, Sept. 30-Oct. 2, beginning at 7 p.m. and will conclude with an informal social gathering. Conducting the mission will be Deacons Eddie Ensley and Robert Hermann from the Diocese of Savannah. The two have conducted similar missions across the country and have written several books. They are both nationally known authors, pastoral counselors and retreat leaders, with more than 20 years experience leading parish missions, retreats and conferences. Among the topics for the mission will be the art of prayer, healing relationships, transforming anger and bitterness through compassion, and how to forgive from the heart. "Deacon Ensley was studying to be a minister when something happened on his first visit to a small Catholic Church," a spokesperson said. "This experience would change his life forever. That story, along with a series of stories about other 'miracles,' is something Christians of all denominations will enjoy hearing. Priests from other parishes have commented on the effectiveness of the missions conducted by Ensley and Hermann. "Their words and message are powerful," said Fr. Raymond Burke from a parish in Iowa. "I was impressed by the way that they could speak to the people in a way that all could understand ... keeping it down to earth." Deacon Richard Fetterman from Immaculate Conception in Moultrie commented, "A wonderful experience. They tailored their presentations to fit our parish." There is no charge to attend the mission and a nursery will be provided for children ages preschool and younger. Children in grades K-8 are invited to attend the Kids' Mission which runs concurrently with the adult presentation each night. Reservations are recommended for the Kids' Mission and may be obtained by calling the religious education office at St. Gabriel's, 770-461-0493. St. Gabriel's is on Antioch Rd. just north of the Antioch Road/Ga. Hwy. 92 intersection. For directions, call the parish office, 770-461-0492. |
