After noise, complaints, new situation on Golfview is safer

I am one of the residents that live on Golfview Drive. One day I came home from work and there was a stop sign plunked right in our front yard next to the driveway. I had no idea this was coming. I thought, Great, finally, some relief from the speeding traffic. I have two young kids who play out in the front yard and have been concerned about the speeding traffic that goes by our house.

At first the stop sign created a new noise. It was the deceleration and then the acceleration of the vehicles. All of this even disturbed our dog. She barked at every car that stopped at the stop sign. She thought they were stopping to visit us.

Everyone that knows where we live have asked how do we like the stop sign in our yard? At first I replied, I'm not sure yet. Now it has been a couple of weeks and I don't notice the deceleration and acceleration noise and our dog no longer barks at the cars that stop.

One of my coworkers drives down Golfview to get to Ga. Highway 54 to go to work. I can tell you she is not happy with the stops signs and speed bumps. We car pooled one day to work and had a discussion about the speed bumps and stop signs. We finally agreed to disagree.

I have noticed a significant decrease in the amount of traffic on Golfview. I am thankful and happy that the traffic has slowed down. I feel better letting my kids play in the front yard now.

One of our neighbors asked me to sign a petition to have the stop signs and speed bumps removed. I declined to sign and feel the stop signs and speed bumps have proven their effectiveness and should stay. As a concerned parent and a resident of Peachtree City, I hope the traffic calming program is implemented in any other neighborhood that has chronic speeding traffic that is hazardous to the neighborhood and its residents.
