Traffic devices
needed in hilly Golfview's residential areas
Thanks to the mayor and council members, we, the residents of Golfview, now feel safer as we walk along the street, work in our yards, exit in and out of our driveways, etc. Since the traffic calming measures were installed, there has been an increase in pedestrian traffic, bicycles and golf cart traffic, which we did not see prior to the installation of the traffic calming devices. The mayor and council members have caught a lot of flak from some which are probably the ones which have been speeding through the neighborhood, without regard to the safety of its residents. A thankless job is what the mayor and council have. Like most things, there are always those few that spoil it for everyone. We, who live on Golfview have learned to accept the volume of traffic that we must cope with daily; however, there is no reason for some to see how fast they can get from Bluesmoke to Flat Creek Road. Golfview is a residential street with curves and hills, not a racetrack. Although Golfview is used as an outlet, it is not a thoroughfare as many think. It is not like a Flat Creek Road, Kedron Drive or Peachtree Parkway which do not have residential driveways opening on to them. Regarding the volume of traffic on Golfview, especially the 400 and 500 blocks, I don't think most people realize just how many use the street on a daily basis. In a recent article in The Citizen, a resident of Peachtree City complained about the traffic calming devices on Golfview. This person may live on a short dead end street with no more than a dozen homes on it. If that is the case, I doubt if they would see over a dozen vehicles which pass in front of their house in a day. If the shoe was on the other foot, they would probably feel differently. On one occasion, I personally counted over 380 vehicles which passed in front of my home in one hour. It has always been the wish of Golfview residents that everyone would drive responsibly through our neighborhood at safe, reasonable speeds. However, there are those few, which will not abide by the rules, which cause everyone to suffer. The mayor and council members had no other choice but to have traffic calming devices installed on Golfview to insure the safety of residents as well as users, and I fully support their actions.
