Contractors
in no hurry to finish stadium as McIntosh misses home games
More than a thousand McIntosh High School students and several thousand more of their family members are watching this year's football season pass before their very eyes. Our first home game was played in August, and it was held at Sandy Creek High School because McIntosh currently has no bleachers in our football stadium. Most of us are aware that monies were approved this summer (by whom? the Fayette County Board of Education?) for new football stadium bleachers. Most of us are also aware that entire weeks have gone by with only a couple of contractors showing up each day to kick their boots into the dirt. After two months, the contractors can prove about a week's worth of progress. Rumor has it there isn't even a penalty clause in place to ensure timely completion of the project. Our second home game is scheduled for this Friday, Sept. 20. Inquiring minds want to know: What kind of genius awards a contract for new football stadium bleachers in August? What company holds the contract? Why haven't the contractors been showing up to work? Is there a penalty clause to protect McIntosh and Fayette County? Will the project be completed as originally promised? There is a story here that Peachtree City wants to read. Please give this issue the press it deserves in your next issue. I have three children, two of whom attend McIntosh High School. My daughter is a Chiefette. Her Chiefette dance team is scheduled to kick off their new year with a tailgate party prior to the Sept. 20 home game. If the game is not held at home, there will be no event this year. This issue affects more than just the football players. Kim Learnard Peachtree City
