TDK gets blessing from PTC mayor and council

The Peachtree City Council has unanimously approved a resolution in support of extending TDK Boulevard to Coweta County to help traffic flow into the city's industrial park. The unanimous support comes as a surprise because earlier this year Mayor Steve Brown spoke out against the connector road. But he has changed his tune, citing support for the widening of Ga. Highway 74 to four lanes, a project that was promised to several local industries years ago. At last week's council meeting, Brown said with the Hwy. 74 widening coming together, he felt he could support the TDK initiative. "With no problem on that road, I have absolutely no problem with the TDK extension," Brown said. "I'm very appreciative of Coweta County's commitment on this project." He also thanked state Sen. Mitch Seabaugh for his assistance on the project. The Coweta County Commission has already earmarked $1 million for construction of the road, which will be complicated somewhat due to the planned construction of the Lake McIntosh reservoir between Fayette and Coweta. Funding will be the top concern for the project, and Fayette County's assistance will likely be sought, Brown said. The estimates for the project range from $3.8 to $4.6 million, depending on whether or not a bridge will be needed to cross a spillway for Lake McIntosh. "There are many, many opportunities for funding since two counties are applying for the project," said councilwoman Annie McMenamin.
