City moving forward on sewer project

By November, the city of Senoia will put out a bid proposal for the second and final phase of its sewer system.

City administrator Murray McAfee said the city has obtained all but four of the easements needed for the system.

If the city needs to go through condemnation procedures to get the final easements, McAfee said the process would be completed in time to bid the project in November.

The city is getting ready to embark on building phase two of its municipal sewer system. The price tag for the project is pegged at $6.1 million.

The phase will complete sewer connections in the heart of the east Coweta city, starting with Main Street, McAfee said.

Of course, there are some areas that receive priority, such as the Martinwood subdivision.

"That will definitely be high on the list," he said.

The city is building the project with a combination of loans and grants. Rural Development of Georgia is loaning the city nearly $3.5 million.

The city had hoped to start construction in June, but McAfee said construction should start in early 2003 and completed in 2004.

Sewer in the city has been discussed for more than a decade and McAfee is relieved to see the project almost ready for construction.
