Master Gardener applications being accepted

If you enjoy plants and enjoy being around people, then you might want to consider becoming a Master Gardener. Master Gardener classes will be held at the Clayton County Commissioners Conference Center Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:30-5p.m., beginning Jan. 6 through March 19, 2003.

A $100 fee is charged for notebook and other supplies. A limited number of scholarships are available on a financial need basis. To be certified as a Master Gardener, 50 hours of volunteer service to the Extension Service is required. You must be a resident of Fayette County to enroll. Topics to be covered include landscape design, annuals and perennials, trees, ornamental shrubs, fruit and vegetable gardening, pest identification and control, plant physiology, entomology and pathology, lawn care and more.

For more information on the Master Gardener program or to receive an application, visit or call the Fayette County Extension Office at 140 Stonewall Avenue, Suite 209, Fayetteville or 770-460-5730 ext. 5412. The deadline for applications is Friday, Oct. 11.
