Chick-fil-A scholarships awarded

Three exemplary leaders and students, Jessica Jones, Joshua Hartley and Jerard Gibson of Fayetteville, have been awarded $1,000 Chick-fil-A® Leadership Scholarships in recognition of their commitment to personal and professional excellence.

Jones and Hartley both are employed at the Fayetteville Chick-fil-A® Dwarf House restaurant, which opened in June, 1991, and is operated by Doug Mickey. Jones, Hartley and Gibson bring to 108 the number of scholarship recipients at the location.

Jones will use her scholarship to defray expenses at Georgia State University where she is studying early childhood education. Hartley, also a Georgia State University student, is studying business administration. Gibson will use his scholarship to go to Xavier University of Louisiana, where he will study pre-med. He graduated from Fayette County High School in 2002.

"I consider my employees to be like family. I take a special interest in helping them achieve their potential and encouraging them to further their education," said Mickey. "Jessica, Josh and Jerard are important members of our team and their leadership skills played a crucial role in helping our restaurant and the Chick-fil-A chain achieve record growth in 2001."

In 2001, 237 Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarships were awarded to Georgia Chick-fil-A restaurant employees. To date, Georgia has received almost $4 million of the nearly $16.9 million in scholarships awarded nationwide since the program's inception in 1973.
