City says gas station is eyesore

The new Citgo station on Senoia Road is rapidly turning into a thorn in the Fairburn City Council's side.

During Monday night's City Council meeting, City Councilman Harvey Melear said he would make a motion at the next City Council meeting to take back the station's occupancy permit.

"It's a junkpile. It looks like Fairburn doesn't care," he said.

Melear has been highly critical of the gas station's landscaping and doesn't like the appearance of the station.

"It's the first thing that people see when they come to Fairburn," he said.

City manager Jim Williams said the station has not been able to secure an alcohol license, which is putting the pressure on the company to correct the problems.

Williams said he had talked to the developers and explained an erosion control plan had to be fixed.

For the past few months, the City Council has questioned the intent of the developers building the convenience store and gas station.

Williams believes the issues can be fixed by the City Council's Sept. 9 meeting.
