Callaway hosts hot air balloon festival

Callaway is excited to once again host the Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival on Labor Day weekend. Celebrate the end of Summer at this annual event, where the sky is the limit for family fun.

Festivities will kick off Friday, Aug. 30, with the highly anticipated balloon glow starting as the sun sets around 8:30 p.m.

As night falls, the inflation of balloons will illuminate their individual colors, evoking images of floating stained glass windows dancing across the waters of Robin Lake.

Saturday morning gates open at 6 a.m., and at approximately 7:15 a.m. the balloons will launch and fly whatever direction the wind takes them, usually traveling five to seven miles before landing. A second launch is scheduled for Saturday afternoon around 5:30 p.m. as well as Sunday morning and afternoon.

In addition to the breathtaking balloons, there will be lots of activities to complete the day. Tethered balloon rides, classic car show, sidewalk chalk art, children's games, face painting, t-shirt decorating, helicopter rides, ballooning demonstrations, live musical entertainment, the traditional Robin Lake Beach activities and more will keep you busy.

Admission is $12 plus tax per adult, $6 plus tax per child (6-12) and children five and under are free. All flights are dependent upon favorable weather and wind conditions.

Make a weekend of it and stay overnight on the Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival package starting at $170 plus tax per room, per night in Callaway's Mountain Creek Inn.

This year Callaway celebrates 50 years of providing a place of beauty, relaxation, inspiration and a better understanding of the living world for millions of visitors. Callaway is committed to continuing its mission of environmental education and land stewardship for the future.
