Fayette County Devil rays win national championship The Fayette County Devil Rays were crowned national champions after winning the 13-under C.A.B.A. House World Series in Cincinnati. The combination of clutch hitting, strong defense and solid pitching helped the team post victories against teams from around the U.S. In the championship bracket, the D-Rays defeated teams from Illinois, Ohio and Michigan to win the national title. The Devil Rays represented the Peachtree City Georgia Baseball Association (PTCGBA) and extended the winning tradition of teams from this local association. The World Series started July 25 with a banquet honoring the teams at an exclusive Cincinnati country club. Playing eight games in only five days, the team pounded opposing pitchers for 87 runs. Despite the midwest July heat, the players persevered through four doubleheaders. The D-Rays survived pool play to advance to the championship round, where they avenged an earlier loss to last year's National runner-up Midland (OH) Warriors, then defeated the Lombard (IL) Thunder in the final game. At the awards ceremony, C.A.B.A. World Series officials and participants praised the team for their sportsmanship and quality of play on the field.
