Starr's Mill wins Sandy Creek softball tournament By MICHAEL

Sandy Creek hosted a softball tournament at the Baseball/Soccer Complex in Peachtree City last weekend. The Starr's Mill Panthers placed first, McIntosh placed second and sandy Creek placed third. Starr's Mill won the championship by defeating McIntosh, 6-0 in the championship game. The Lady Panthers scored three runs in the second inning and held on for the win. Starr's Mill had previously won the Jordan Invitational tournament with wins over Monroe County, 15-0; Shaw, 1-0; Kennesaw Mountain, 7-3 and LaGrange, 3-2 in the final. Following the Jordan tournament, Starr's Mill defeated Newnan, 7-0 and Stockbridge, 2-0. They will host Fayette County at 6 p.m. tomorrow. McIntosh placed second in the Sandy Creek tournament by defeating Chapel Hill, 6-1 and Callaway 11-1 on Friday. The Lady Chiefs lost 2-1 to Union Grove on Saturday, despite a homeun by pitcher Lily Yarbrough. McIntosh then defeated Sandy Creek, 10-2 and then lost to Starr's Mill in the final. Renae Clarke had two homeruns for McIntosh in the tournament. other contributors to the offense included Kristy Cline, Kim Bevillard, Alison Zelinski and Kelsey Dawson among others. The Lady Chiefs played at Carver yesterday and will host Starr's Mill next Wednesday at 6 p.m. Fayette County did not play in the tournament but has produced two huge wins recently. The Lady Tigers defeated Riverdale 15-0 and Sandy Creek 17-0. In the Riverdale game pitcher Bonnie Bynum struck out eight baters while Megan Nichols drove in three runs and Ashley Holcombe drove in two runs. Against the Lady Patriots, Bynum gave up one hit and struck out six batters. She also drove in two runs, as did Nichols, Holcombe, Stefanie Norman, Becky Carder and Pamela O'Neal.
