Holly Grove dedicates cornerstone

Historic Holly Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church installed a cornerstone Sunday, Aug. 18, in recognition of 105 years of service to the community. The cornerstone was installed on the new fellowship hall addition to the church.

The Smooth Ashler Grand Lodge conducted the dedication.

The Rt. Rev. Frank C. Cummings, Bishop of the 6th Episcopal District, was the keynote speaker and spoke to the congregation from 1 Peter 2:6: "Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, behold, I lay in Sion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded."

With prayers for Holly Grove's continued success, the congregation followed the bishop to the location of the cornerstone.

Also present at the dedication was Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown who spoke of the struggles Holly Grove has endured in the last several years. Brown commended the audience for its exemplary handling of each of the situations which have arisen concerning its position in the community.

"There will be other struggles, but Peachtree City is behind you 100 percent," Brown said.

Holly Grove Church is at 400 Holly Grove Church Rd. in Peachtree City.
