Only Fayette resident in 34th Senate race needs our help

We have an outstanding Fayette County Republican candidate running for the 34th District [Senate seat]. Emory Wilkerson is Fayette County's only local candidate in this race.

Because the district encompasses Clayton County, the state Republican Party has thus far withheld their monetary support, saying it is too tough a race. This is somewhat understandable as they want to put the majority of their efforts behind electing Saxby Chambliss and Sonny Perdue. However, for those of us in Fayette County, being represented at the state level by someone who understands Fayette County is extremely important also.

Emory can't win without money. He's going to be facing a tough Democratic opponent. I would like to suggest that through November, those of us in Fayette County forego donating money to the state party and instead donate our dollars to help Emory. The state party will survive without our donations, Emory may not.

I am not working on Emory's campaign; in fact, he will not be my representative if he wins (I live in Peachtree City; his district reaches into Fayetteville and the surrounding area). I do understand, however, that he will be representing ALL of Fayette County with every vote he casts.

If you would like to make a donation to Emory, make your check payable to "People for Emory Wilkerson" and send to P.O. Box 142727, Fayetteville, GA 30214.
