Students' Web efforts help kids learn more about Jimmy Carter

Recently, Joseph Bowler, assistant professor of Information Technology at Clayton College & State University, received a letter from Annette Wise, instructional specialist and coordinator of a partnership among the Georgia Department of Education, Sumter County public schools, and the National Park Service.

She was bragging on one of her summer interns, Annette Wright, an IT student and senior at Clayton State.

Last year, Wright and fellow student Peter Blair (also a Fayette County resident) worked as interns on a project developing an educational Website for the Jimmy Carter National Historical Site. When grant money had all but dried up for the project, Wise turned to Clayton State for help.

After successfully creating the site last summer, Wright, a resident of Fayette County, returned for a second internship this summer to help revise and update it.

The site contained field trip registration forms for teachers, learning programs, links to other educational sites, research material, a virtual tour and games and puzzles to help children learn about America's 39th President.

"I (wanted) to let you know how pleased I have been this summer with Annette Wright. She has spent many hours reviewing, revising and developing items for the homepage for the Jimmy Carter NHS Education Program," said Wise.

"Recently, I received a call from The Carter Center in Atlanta requesting permission for them to link and to use information off my website to send to students and adults requesting information about President and Mrs. Carter. This was a tremendous compliment since The Carter Center as well as the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum have wonderful web sites."

"I would also like to mention that President Carter has also viewed the site and was very pleased with it. Thanks to Annette, the site is professional, impressive and very user friendly!"
