A little bit of Broadway and New York City comes to Atlanta starting this week when the Alliance Theatre presents "Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk," a popular musical that captured four Tony Awards in 1996.

The show, created by choreographer Savion Glover and director George C. Wolfe, chronicles 300 years of rhythm and dance, using the sounds of tap, blues, hip hop and percussion. The book is by Reg E. Gaines and music is by Daryl Waters, Zane Mark and Ann Duquesnay. Glover won the Tony award for choreography, in addition to the 1996 Drama Desk Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award, while Wolfe won the Tony for Best Director for the show.

Glover has appeared on Broadway in shows like "The Tap Dance Kid," "Black and Blue" and "Jelly's Last Jam" as well as on the children's program, "Sesame Street" and Spike Lee's film "Bamboozled." Joining Glover in "Bring in 'Da Noise" are Lynette Dupree as 'Da Singer, Thomas Silcott as 'Da Voice and Cartier Anthony Williams as The Kid. Dancers Marshall L. Davis, Dormeshia Sumbry Edwards and Maurice Chestnut play the roles of the performers with drummers Jared Crawford and Ray King.

Dupree was in the original Broadway cast of the show and has also appeared in recurring roles on "Philly" and "Law and Order" Silcott was last seen at the Alliance theatre in "To kill a Mockingbird" and Williams is an 11-year-old dancer who recently performed in the Cannes Film Festival's opening number.

"Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk" will be performed through Sept. 29. Tickets are $20-$49 and can be purchased by calling 404-733-5000 or visiting www.alliancetheatre.org.
