PTC 1st Presbyterian to offer new adult enrichment classes The First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City recently announced the addition of two new classes in its adult enrichment program. One of them begins tonight. "One of the missions of our church is to nurture each person in the faith," a spokesperson said. "We feel that by offering for the first time both the 'Alpha Course' and the 'Disciple: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study' we are helping to fulfill that part of our mission statement. Both are proven studies at churches throughout the world." The Alpha Course, a 15-session program which is a practical introduction to the Christian faith, begins tonight, Aug. 21, at 6:30 p.m. Leaders are Craig Chadwick and Jon Waller. "The purpose of this class is to encourage acceptance of Jesus Christ as personal Savior and to contribute to the teaching and putting into practice of His two great commandments," the spokesperson said. "The style of Alpha is informal and friendly. In small group settings it offers loads of opportunity for debate and discussion and seeks to find answers to important questions Christians have concerning their faith." Alpha classes meet Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. The second class is "Disciple: Becoming Disciples through Bible Study." This 34-week session is an approach to Bible study that emphasizes disciplined reading and listening to Scripture. The group will move through the Scripture from Genesis to Revelation and will read more than 70 percent of the Bible. "Disciple aims at transformation, not just information," the spokesperson continued. "It calls on persons to submit themselves to examination by Scripture, to put themselves under the power of God's word, and to be changed by God's word." A one-hour informational meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. Classes will meet Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. until noon, beginning Sept. 12, and Wednesday nights from 6:30-8 p.m., beginning Sept. 21. Group leaders are Chris DeGroot and Mick Lloyd on Thursdays and Pastor Sandi Wilmesherr on Wednesdays.
