ARC population report fails to provide accurate picture

[The Citizen's] John Munford correctly reported the raw data released by the Atlanta Regional Commission, but the raw data does not provide an accurate picture of growth rate because it fails to account for the differences in population of each county.

The ARC report also provided the counties' growth rate as a percentage of population. By that measure, Fayette County ranks number five (out of 10 and tied with Douglas County). Additionally, Fayette's projected 2001-2002 growth rate is 3.00 percent, just above the Atlanta metro average of 2.92 percent.

Interestingly, Henry County leads the pack with a 7.40 percent projected growth rate versus Gwinnett's distant third with 4.00 percent.
