Home Depot sets up shop in PTC The Home Depot, the world's leading home improvement retailer, has opened its Peachtree City store. With the opening of the store, Home Depot is now operating 56 stores in Georgia. The store encompasses 120,000 square feet, including an inside/outside garden center and wants to be a good corporate citizen in the community. Store manager Derrick Broomfield also made a $2,000 donation to the American Cancer Society at the store's opening. "We are a part of the Peachtree City community," said Broomfield. "Aside from doing business here, we hope to develop a strong presence giving back to the community," he added. The Peachtree City store will offer free do-it-yourself clinics for its customers. Popular clinics include: how to lay ceramic tile; how to hang wallpaper; and how to install a ceiling fan. The store will feature a professionally-staffed designed center offering free, in-store consulting for many home improvement projects, ranging from lighting and wallpaper recommendations to computer-assisted design for a whole kitchen or bathroom. Home Depot employs more than 290,000 people and, with the opening of the Peachtree City store, will operate more than 1,440 stores in 49 states, seven Canadian provinces, Puerto Rico and Mexico. Founded in 1978, The Home Depot is the world's largest home improvement retailer with fiscal 2001 sales of $53.6 billion. The company was recently named in the Top 10 Most Admired Companies in America by Fortune magazine, which has also ranked it as America's Most Admired Specialty Retailer for eight consecutive years. Its stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE:HD) and is included in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Standard & Poor's 500 index.
