Christian City reeling from Wednesday night shootings

The Christian City community spent Thursday grieving for one of its employees after a bizarre triple murder near the retirement home Wednesday night.

One of the people gunned down in the incident was Christian City security guard Doug Tucker, who had worked at the center for seven years.

"He was one of best and most loyal employees. We have no idea who did this, but the police assure us the perpetrator is not around here," said Christian City CEO Bob Crutchfield.

Union City Police Chief Mike Isome said his department received a call at 9:47 p.m. Wednesday that shots had been fired near the Christian City campus on Red Oak Road.

When the police arrived, they discovered two bodies just outside the campus. The victims had been shot and have been identified as John Shore, 26, of Stockbridge and Allison Smith, 19, of Stockbridge.

Isome said the police were trying to gather evidence at the scene, when another call came in of another body found on the Christian City campus.

Another police car was dispatched and police found the body of Tucker just inside the entrance at Christian City.

"Apparently, the perpetrators inadvertently found themselves on the campus when they were trying to get away and also killed Tucker," Isome said.

Isome said his investigative team has received numerous leads on the incident, but said it is too early to speculate on the reason for the killings.

He did say that Shore and Smith were probably transported to Red Oak Road by the killers, since there was no indication of more than one vehicle at the scene.

Christian City officials worked through the day Thursday telling the residents of the incident and assuring them of their safety.

"We've got grief counselors and we're trying to give our residents the latest information. We have no idea why this happened," Crutchfield said.
