Last Fling gives local kids one last chance to enjoy carefree days of summer
By MICHAEL BOYLAN
Though school will have already started, area children are invited to have one last fling before settling down for the school year. The Peachtree City Parks and recreation Department will present the 13th annual Last Fling on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Shakerag Knoll in Peachtree City from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Last Fling is a combination of games, entertainment, rides, treats and prizes and best of all, admission to the event is free. There will be carnival games, giant slides and obstacle course, a moonwalk, hockey lessons from the Atlanta Thrashers Outreach Hockey Team, train rides and more. The 24 foot high Climbing Rock Wall is back for children to climb at $3 a try, as are spin-art booths, dancing exhibitions and fun treats like cotton candy, nachos, snow cones and pizza. The food vendors are non-profit youth groups who use the event to raise much-needed funds. New to the Last Fling this year is a demonstration of extreme art from some local students and performances from local bands Gravel undertones and Brazen Angel from 2-4 p.m. There will also be an appearance from Doodle the Clown at this year's event. The Peachtree City Parks and Recreation Departmernt invites volunteers to participate in the Last Fling by manning a game booth or helping with one of the amusements. You must be 14 or older and agree to volunteer for a minimum of 2 hours. Come out to meet your community, get involved, receive a free t-Shirt and a lunch ticket. For additional information call 770-631-2542. School may have already started but there is a little fling left in everybody. Head on out to Shakerag Knoll on Saturday and have a ball. |
