Cooperation was the theme of Sprayberry-Burrell board

Each time I have run for office the two questions I am most often asked are, "Can you make the hard decisions?" and, "Will you hold the line on growth?" I have worked hard to prove that I am indeed capable of making those decisions that might not always be popular or personally expedient. As a result, my opponents' main platform seems to be that, unlike me, they will be a "team player," get along with others, or that they will single-handedly end the disagreement between the County Commission and the cities.

While I'm certainly not minimizing the importance of trying to attain as much agreement and cooperation as possible, one must remember that as long as a commissioner is striving to serve the interest of ALL of the county's citizens, differences will continue to occur.

If one wants to know what the results would be like if all the county officials were getting along, think back to four years ago. The Sprayberry-Burrell board forgot that they were accountable to the entire county.

As a result, favors were granted to special individuals, the land use plan was used as an article of convenience, and for the most part, those who are now complaining so loudly were happy.

However, the average citizen was not so pleased; there was a 16 percent satisfaction rating for how the county government was run, and as a result, those commission members were replaced.

As Election Day draws near, I encourage you to visit my web site at electlindawells.org and check out the issues I believe are important to our county's future. As usual, you will see that I am straightforward and up-front with where I stand.

I also encourage you to ask my opponents to clearly delineate their platforms. Check Mr. Stephens' web site and measure his depth of understanding of the issues and try to ferret out his proposed solutions.

We have been asking him to explain what his positions are on growth, the land use plan, GRTA and traffic. To date, we have had only silence from him on these issues. You, the voters, deserve REAL answers to REAL issues.

Commissioner Linda Wells
