Fayette Dancers win big at Nationals

Bob McSwiggan, Linda Robinson and Mary Lou Weibel performed in the Applause Talent Presentations National Final Competition held last month in Panama City, Fla. The team won High Gold Honors and a national Championship Award, performing a Fosse musical specialty, "Dancin' Dan." This award winning number was choreographed by Carla Gillespie of Carla's Dance Factory in Fayetteville.

Out of 15 adult acts, over 800 total acts, competing in the national finals, the Fayette Trio received first place high score in their age group, second place high score in their category and third place high score of all the adult acts which includes the professional performers. The adult competition includes dancers from age 22 to 70. The Fayette Trio's average age is 62.

In May, they performed at the prestigious Grand Ole Opry, Roy Acuff Theater in Nashville, Tenn., where they brought home a High Gold Score and the Regional first place award. The Fayette Trio also performed in the Stage One Regional Championships in Atlanta this past spring where they received the first place championship award in their category which included pro-am.

The Fayette Trio are part of the Fayette Showstoppers which is only one of Carla Gillespie's five adult dance groups, not including her ballroom classes. They will perform again this year at the Festival of Trees held at the Georgia World Congress Center. They will also appear in the Christmas production of "Mr. Ziegfeld's Follies," along with other adult dance groups from around the Southern Crescent.
