Tyrone Seminoles finish second in the
"USSSA -9-U Major World Series"

The 9-u Tyrone Seminoles ended their season on a great note placing second in the "USSSA 9-U Major World Series".

The Seminoles traveled to Sulpur, Louisiana and faced some of the best 9-U teams in the country. The Seminoles defeated USSSA State Champion teams from California, Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana and Kansas. The Seminoles fell to the Oklahoma City Mets in the Championship Game.

The team received several awards including the "Tournament Sportsmanship Award". Julius Gaines was named the "Most Outstanding Defensive Player" of the tournament. Seven Seminole players were named to the "All Tournament Team." These players include: Julius Gaines, Kevin Cosper, Delino DeShields, Marsalis Holloway, Joel Sewell, Ryan Hickman and Rashad Billups.

The Seminoles finished the 2002 season with a 62-20 record against 54 different teams including some of the best 10-year-old teams in the state and some of the best 9­year-old teams in the country. The Seminoles won several tournament Championships during the 2002 Season which included ­ North Alabama Giants Invitational in Huntsville, Cherokee Challenge in Knoxville, USSSA Worlds Series Qualifier in Riverdale and the USSSA Memorial Day Tournament in McDonough.
