Wells: Commission has brought ethics back

Four years ago:

· 84 percent of the county was dissatisfied with their county government.

· Rezonings were rampant and based on special interests or personal affiliations.

· Public comment was removed from the commissioner's public meetings.

· Ethics was given lip service, but was not practiced by the Board of Commissioners.

Today:

· 68 percent of the Fayette citizens express satisfaction with their county government.

· County growth decisions are based on a viable land use plan.

· Every county citizen has equal representation.

· Public comment is now a part of the commissioners' public meetings.

· A code of ethics exists and is practiced.

Tomorrow:

· Local transportation issues must be addressed by the county and cities.

· Annexations with increased density must be planned, coordinated and communicated; not surprises that overburden surrounding infrastructure.

· Fayette County must be partners in regional development, not puppets.

· Rezonings must continue to be fair and equitable.

· County decisions must be based on what is best for all of the county citizens and not on what is "best" for an individual city's elected officials.

You elected me to return honesty, integrity and sanity to county government. I have done that and I pledge to continue the same. Thomas Jefferson once stated, "Don't get rid of the old bucket until you are sure the new one holds water."

Linda Wells

Fayette County Commissioner, Post 4

Fayetteville
