Fayette Players has local students present chidren's show at libraries By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
Each year, Fayette Players and Community Theatre gives a graduating senior interested in drama an opportunity to direct a children's show to be performed in the local libraries during their summer reading program. This year, the opportunity went to a rising senior, Craig Delorenzo of Starr's Mill High School. The play that DeLorenzo is directing is called "Little Red and The Hoods." It is about a troup of actors who are set to perform "Little Red Riding Hood." The play features all of the good morals from the original story: respect your elders and don't talk to strangers, but also gives the story a bit of a twist and a playful sense of humor. The cast of the show includes Amy White, Phillip Davis, Amanda Kulaga and Rebecca Kling. DeLorenzo has worked with all of the cast before in other productions, though this is his first time at the helm of the show. "The main challenge so far has been getting everybody together at the same time," said Delorenzo. "I am very impressed with the cast's spirit though and they are really coming together and playing off of each other well." The set is very limited as it will have to make the trip to each of the libraries over the next few weeks. The costumes are also not very elaborate but each character has a piece of clothing and a signature color. "We just want the kids to enjoy it and have a good time, said DeLorenzo, who is using his considerable amount of theater background to help steer his cast. In the past year, DeLorenzo has performed with Starr's Mill in "The Diviners," "You Can't Take It With You," and "South Pacific." For his role in "The Diviners" he won Best Actor in the Region and State. He has also worked with House Red Theatre Company in their production of "Brighton Beach Memoirs" and was recently the stage manager for Fayette Players and Community Theatre's "The Sound of Music." "Little Red and The Hoods" will be performed at the Peachtree City Library on Tuesday, July 23 at 7 p.m., the Tyrone Library on Wednesday, July 31 at 10 a.m. and the Fayette County Library at 2 p.m. Members of the summer reading groups are asked to get tickets at the library prior to the show.
