Pioneers have a region champion in their midst

The SouthSide Pioneers have been busy. Last Monday the team received the Local Championship Team Award from the Georgia State Games Commission at the Georgia Games Torch Run Ceremony in Griffin. They will compete in the Georgia Games Championships in Augusta this weekend.

Last weekend the Pioneers competed in the USATF Regional Championships in Richmond, Va. and saw one of their own, Tina Williams, crowned as a Regional Champion in the 400 meter dash in the SubBantam Girls Division with a time of 1:16. Williams also had a second place finish in the meet in the 200 meter dash with a time of 31.33.

Other Pioneers that competed in the meet were Najee Pace in the Running Long Jump, Emma Lee in the Shot Put, Lisa Williams in the 1,500 meter run and the 4x100 meter relay team of Brandon Lee, Jonathan Johnson, J. R. Rea and Quinta Starr.

The Pioneers will have a week off between the Georgia Games and their next meet, the AAU National Championship, in Knoxville,Tenn, which will take place Aug. 3-10.
