Have you ever dreamed of flying? If so, you may want to head to Trapeze School Atlanta at Gym South in Fayetteville and give it a whirl.

Maria Paulo, owner of Trapeze School of Atlanta, got into the sport on a whim. She was on vacation in Jamaica several years ago and had the opportunity to give the trapeze a try. It was love at first flight. She became more involved in flying and decided to open her own school, which was how she ended up in Fayetteville, teaching classes and introducing people to the trapeze.

Currently, there are 57 registered students ranging in ages from 4 to 50-something. The classes are all beginner level as there are not enough students for intermediate or advanced lessons just yet. The school has been open since March 9 and is building quite a following. They have had visitors from Canada and New York who fly in their hometowns and know they can fly when they are down here as well.

"I wanted to bring a new experience to people," said Paulo. "It did wonders for my self-esteem and is the best experience I have ever had."

Paulo works with Chrissy Shunk and June Payne, who both have a background in competitive gymnastics. Both girls have latched on to the sport quickly and have become quite good at what they do. The three work together teaching students basic tricks like knee hangs and splits to more advanced tricks like layouts and doubles. The classes are currently offered in the evenings as they teach students in the Gym South summer camp during the day.

Classes are offered Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m-noon and 2:30- 5 p.m. The school also offers individual sessions to give a "fly" a try. Phone 770-716-6662 or visit www.trapezeschool.com for more information.
