The Dwyer brothers of Peachtree City swept the USTA Georgia State Championship recently on the tennis courts at Macon, Ga.

The tournament included the top 64 players from Georgia in each age division competing for the title of "Georgia State Champion" in singles and doubles competitions. In the B-16's events, James Dwyer won the singles title, Marc Dwyer was a finalist in the feed-in consolation earning sixth place, and together James and Marc won the doubles title.

James Dwyer won the B-16s singles title 6-1;6-2 over Jimmy Petite of Kennesaw, who received emergency I.V.'s for dehydration and cramping after his quarterfinals win earlier in the tournament. Petite, the three seed, came back to win the semi's upsetting the two seed, Luka Cerenko of Atlanta.

Meanwhile, Marc Dwyer was earning his trophy on a court nearby. Marc, the nine seed, lost to five seed Jordan Delass of Marietta in the quarter-finals; but came back in the semi-finals of the consolations upsetting the four seed, William Moseley of Atlanta.

In the doubles competition, James and Marc Dwyer won 8-2 over Jordan Delass and Sandeep Daiya.

James is currently in the top 100 of the USTA B-16 division. He has also been ranked second in the state B-16 division and eighth in the Southern Tennis Association's B-16 division.

Marc is currently in the top 200 in the USTA B-16 division and 34th in the B-14 division. In the state he is ranked fourth in the B-14 division and fifth in the B-16 division. Marc is also ranked 14th in the Southern Tennis Association's B-16 division. In the past few months he was the doubles champion of two USTA National Opens with Chris Clower and was a singles finalist at an event in May that was rained out.

Both James and Marc have high aspirations in tennis, looking to extend their success to college and beyond.
