All Children's Playground reopens; commemorative brick sale ends soon By JOHN
MUNFORD
The Luther Holt Memorial All Children's Playground at Picnic Park in Peachtree City has reopened now that the new rubber surfacing has been installed for the second phase of equipment at the playground. Inclement weather had delayed the installation of the rubber surface that surrounds the playground. The rubber surface is used instead of wood chips or sand so children in wheelchairs and walkers have an easier time getting onto the equipment. Organizers plan to temporarily suspend sales of commemorative bricks that will be installed at the playground. Sales will cease July 1 for an undetermined period of time, organizers said. The bricks cost $35 for one, $30 each for two to three bricks and $25 each for four or more. Proceeds will go toward the completion of a third and final phase of playground equipment, which will include a special swingset. That third phase will cost an estimated $100,000. The first two phases cost $50,000 each. Funds have been raised entirely from community support and donations from local businesses. The playground is a first-of-its-kind venture for metro Atlanta. "We wanted to give people who have been thinking about getting a brick a couple of more weeks to do so," said Colleen Sugar, who chairs the volunteer playground committee. "We have about 200 orders now, and we want to go ahead and order the bricks so we can get them placed at the playground." To purchase a brick, contact the Peachtree City Recreation Department at 770-631-2542.
