Coweta Writer's Group has big things in works

Vickie Kennedy of Newnan has won second place in the EPPIE 2002 Contest for the science fiction book she had published last year, "The Hidden Truth of Cytech's Randall Forty." She is the teacher of a workshop which meets semi-monthly in Newnan called "The Writerís Block," which she established in 1994 and recently began a new venture: her own book publishing company.

This is a genuine publishing company, not a "vanity press" or a mere outlet for her own writings. Information about this publishing company will be disclosed in a talk she will give next month as the Guest Speaker to the Coweta Writers Group, an organization of writers and aspiring writers living in or near Coweta County. This meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 11, at the Newnan-Coweta Public Library on Hospital Road in Newnan. The timing is appropriate because there are currently several Coweta Writers Group members who have books ready for publication.

The Coweta Writers Group will soon have its own magazine, "The Coweta Writer." The Editor will be Bill Harbin, a retired journalist living in Newnan. Henceforth, at each monthly meeting, beginning in July, members will bring in items for publication, which Harbin will take home with him to assemble into the next month's issue, copies of which he will then bring to the next meeting to distribute to the members.

Most of the contents will be short pieces, poems, short stories, and articles plus a few news items about the Group and its members.

Information on the Coweta Writers Group can be obtained from David Wilson at 770-583-2918 or Susan Bajalcaliev 770-252-2963; susanbaj@charter.net.

Information about The Coweta Writer can be obtained from Bill Harbin at 770-254-0530 or wharbin916@numail.org.
