Pioneers sending athletes to AAU regional meet in Savannah

The Southside Pioneers track team competed in the Georgia AAU state meet at Hiram High School last weekend. The Pioneers faced the top competition in the state and the top six finishers in each event would go on to the AAU regional meet in Savannah, June 27-30.

Pioneers that advanced to the regional meet were Emma Lee, first place in the shotput, 3.02 meters; Tina Williams, first in the 400 meters, 1:14.59 and second in the 200 meters, 32.12; Lisa Williams, second in the 1,500 meters, 6:19.50 and sixth in the 800 meters, 3:09.35; Olivia Fisher, fourth in the 1,500 meters, 7:00.79 and Najee Pace, fourth in the running long jump, 3.69 meters.

Other members of the team heading to Savannah are Joy ferrell, second n the high jump, 1.21 meters, third in the running long jump, 3.6 meters and fourth in the pentathlon. Quinta Starr took second in the running long jump, 6.26 meters; Stephen Pline place fourth in the 3,000 meters, 11:21.15; Katie Hughes placed sixth in the 800 meters, 2:54.34 and Donovan Herring placed third in the 110 meter hurdles, 16.42.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Auston Childs, Matt Harlfinger, Jack McCrary and Herring took sixth place with a time of 46.27.

Other team members who competed and achieved personal records were Jesse Rea, Vince Brown, Jessie Brown, Iman Person, Rachel Menefee, Jessica Owen, Querius Harrell, Nicole Mathis, and James Mathis.

The Southside Pioneers will compete in the USATF Junior Olympic Championships at Hiram High School in Hiram, Ga. again this weekend.
