The Master Gardeners of Fayette County have once again planted a garden that is expected to yield at least 1,800 pounds of food.

In cooperation with the Garden Writers Association of America and Home and Garden Television (HGTV), the Fayette County group has planted a garden near the Fayette County Public Library.

The Fayette County commissioners have donated the plot of land and till the soil for the group. When the crops have given up their yield, the veggies will go to all Fayette County charitable organizations, such as the Fayette County Samaritans, Fayette Youth Protection Homes, and the Fayette Senior Center.

The GWAA is an organization of communicators in the lawn and garden industry. A nonprofit association, it provides leadership and opportunities for education, recognition and a forum for diverse interactions for professionals in the field of garden communication.

Suzanne Rocus, horticulture program assistant for Fayette County, is the liaison between the Fayette County Extension Service and the Master Gardeners.

"We were very excited last year," she said, "to have a yield of 1,800 pounds of foods and look forward to doing it again this year." The GWAA is located in Manassas, Va., and can be reached at info@gwaa.org or at www.gwaa.org.
