Southside Pioneers to send tracksters to state USATF Championship meet

The Southside Pioneers Track Club competed in the 2002 USATF Georgia Association Junior Olympic Qualifier last weekend. The top eight qualifiers advanced to the Georgia Association USATF Championship meet to take place in Hiram, Ga. June 20-23.

For the girls, Tina Williams took first in the SubBantam division in both the 200-meter run (35.37) and 400-meter run (1:16.93). Emma Lee placed first in the shot put (3.05 meters). In the Bantam Girls division, Olivia Fisher placed fifth in the 800-meter run (4:13.39) while Lisa Williams placed second in the 1,500-meter run (6:16.45) and fourth in the 800-meter run (4:06.04).

Joy Ferrell got two second place finishes and a seventh place finish in the midget girls division. Ferrell placed second in the long jump (13'3") and high jump (4'2) and seventh in the 200-meter run (30.6). In the intermediate girls division, Rachel Menefee placed sixth in the 800-meter run (3:04.01), Jessica Owen placed fifth in the long jump (10'9.75") Khaneisha Pagan placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (19.78) and the 4x100-meter relay team of Menefee, Pagan, Jessi Brown and Mellany Stanislaus placed fourth (54.38).

As for the boys, Najee Pace placed first in the long jump (12'9"), third in the 200-meter run (31.14) and fourth in the 100-meter run (15.27). James Mathis placed second in the long jump (16'4.5') in the young boys division. The 4x100-meter relay team of Vince Brown, Chris Manning, Michael Manning and David Mathis placed first in the midget division (59.28).

In the intermediate boys division, Jonathan Johnson placed fifth in the long jump (16') and eighth in the 100-meter run (12.34). Brandon Lee placed third in the 100-meter run (11.94) and eighth in the 110 hurdles (20.05), while Stephen Pine placed second in the 3,000-meter run (11:21.15). Quinta Starr placed first in the long jump (20'3.75"), third in the 200-meter run (24.61), and fifth in the 100-meter run (12.21). Joshua White placed seventh in the 110 hurdles (19.39). The 4x100-meter relay team of Johnson, Lee, Starr and White placed second (46.7).

In the young men's division, Auston Childs placed third in the 100-meter run (11.75) and fifth in the 200-meter run (23.69). Quierius Harrell placed first in the 100-meter run (11.64) and third in the 200-meter run (23.55). Matt Harlfinger placed third in the 110 hurdles (16.72) and Josh McCrary placed second in the high jump (5'8") and sixth in the 200-meter run (25.34) and the 400-meter run (55.98). The 4x100-meter relay team of Childs, Harlfinger, Harrell and McCrary placed third (45.08).

The Southside Pioneers will participate in the AAU State Championship this weekend.
