Volunteers sought for Fourth of July

The Peachtree City Recreation Department is looking for a few good male or female volunteers for crowd control on the morning of July 4.

During the parade, the area along both sides of Peachtree Parkway, between Bridlepath and Neely Fire Station area, is especially congested with parade watchers. When the parade begins to move, spectators who stray into the street can quickly be in danger.

"Our department will need a significant number of volunteers to help keep the crowd out of the street and make sure that spectators can watch the parade in absolute safety," said recreation administrator Sherry McHugh. "More large vehicles have registered for the parade this year. They have the most trouble seeing spectators darting in traffic seeking candy," she continued.

"Parents are urged to discuss the potential danger with their children before the parade begins and to stay close to them to monitor their movements. They forget so quickly when they are excited about getting a treat. We don't want the holiday ruined with an accident," McHugh said.

If you would like to volunteer your time for a few hours on that morning, please call the Recreation Department at 770-631-2542. You can have a front row view of the parade and help keep the Fourth of July accident-free.
