For the third year in a row, Peeples Elementary took top honors in the Fayette Youth Protection Home's Power Parade.

Nearly 200 students took part in raising $5,262 for the homes for abused and neglected children. This was part of the grand total of over $18,000 raised by Fayette County elementary school children.

Three students at Peeples took top individual honors: Telecia Reed, Chelsea Chastine and Jeff Hannah with 55 sponsors donating $1,151.41.

The next five highest schools were Fayette, Kedron, Peachtree City, Brooks and Spring Hill elementary schools.

Telecia received tickets to a Atlanta Braves game and other students received fun certificates donated by DixieLand Fun Park. The school received a $500 gift certificate from Sportime International, and the two top classes received pizza parties, compliments of Pizza Hut of Peachtree City. Everyone who raised $25 or more received a T-shirt designed by Melissa Flanagan, a senior art student of Fayette County High School.

The Power Parade is held in conjunction with Child Abuse Prevention Month and physical education teachers who coordinate the parades at each school take the opportunity to talk to the students about abuse and how they can provide help to hurting children.

This was the 13th year of the parade and the slogan, contributed by the Flat Rock Middle School Beta Club, was "United We Walk In Power." In the 13 years, Fayette County students have raised over $170,000 toward this cause.
