The Fayette County Commission will finish its preliminary budget discussions Thursday with three more department heads presenting their budgets.

Officials from the library, the Department of Family and Children's Services and Senior Services are set to answer questions about their budgets from the County Commission at 5:30 Thursday.

The County Commission last week heard from the rest of its departments and will probably hold another public hearing before voting on the $66 million budget June 27.

This year, the county's general fund budget is $44.5 million, while special revenue funds, including fire and E-911 total $9.6 million. The final component of the budget is the water department, which has a $12.4 million budget.

Budget director Mark Pulliam expects the County Commission to have a reading of the budget Thursday night, with the final vote at the end of the month.

In the interim, he also expects the county to stage another public hearing on the budget.

"You're only required to have one, but traditionally the county holds two," he said.

Thursday's budget workshop will be held at the Fayette County Administrative Complex.
