Witness: Beverley planned to leave By JOHN

One of Beverley Watson's best friends testified yesterday that her friend had developed "a new resolve" to leave her husband in the weeks before she disappeared. Krista Hinkle testified that Beverley Watson told her she planned to move into an apartment at Weatherly Walk Apartments in Fayetteville as she planned to separate from her husband before her disappearance. Hinkle previously testified that Beverley Watson told her that Jim Watson threatened to kill her and dispose of her body where it would never be found. The application Beverley Watson signed for that apartment was entered into evidence in court Thursday morning. On the form, she indicated she was renting the apartment because she was "separating from her husband." It is likely that prosecutors are trying to prove that Jim Watson had motives to kill his wife because she was separating from him. Hinkle also testified that Beverley Watson once confided in her that Jim Watson asked their pastor to convince her to reconcile with him. Hinkle said she later went to the pastor, Ken Vinson, and asked him not to do so. "You don't know all that's going on. She needs to leave," Hinkle said she told the pastor. Beverley Watson filed for divorce in 1994 but later reconciled with her husband after she was in an automobile accident the same year, witnesses have said. Defense attorneys have yet to present any witnesses since the prosecution is still presenting its case as of press time Thursday afternoon. Jim Watson's attorney, Lee Sexton, has indicated his client plans to testify and defend himself of the murder charge.
