Commissioner wants makeover By JOHN
THOMPSON
Is the Coweta County Administrative Complex set for a facelift? It could be, as the County Commission mulls over a suggestion by Commissioner Leigh Schlumper to spruce up the county's administrative building. Schlumper said she would love to see the black paint inside the building gone, and said the exterior also needs a make-over. "Since the city of Newnan has just finished its streetscapes, we also need to spruce up," she said. She suggested possibly more plantings outside the building, along with fixing some columns and sidewalk repair. Commissioner Vernon "Mutt" Hunter said the county needs to focus on maintenance before any cosmetic improvements are made. "We need to stop the darn roof from leaking," he said. The other commissioners agreed with Hunter, and instructed staff to look at the costs of the repair, along with some cosmetic items. Schlumper said she would love to see the entire building's stucco replaced with brick, but knew it would be too expensive. But Commissioner Lawrence Nelms said a brick accent could be part of the facelift. Commissioner Robert Wood said the building could use a little fix-up, but still was in good shape. "This looks a whole lot better than many of the buildings I've seen in my travels," he said.
